Synopsis:
Given the tremendous growth in the field of wireless and communication technologies, a wide variety of applications adapt new-generation electronic devices in the development of assistive tools for people with visual disabilities to help them overcome challenging tasks that they may encounter every day.
This project aims to explore the potential of state of the art technologies combined with sophisticated image-processing and path-finding algorithms in order to assist the visually impaired in the task of navigating in unfamiliar buildings. It involves the development of a new indoor navigation system taking full advantage of the possibilities offered by the enormous technological progress in the world today and by the flourishing research exploring its future prospects that may benefit the Visually Impaired.
