Seminar: Simulating Wireless Networks using NS2

Speaker: Dr. Sarah Alhumoud, Assistant Professor, Imam Mohammed bin Saud University

Abstract: Simulation is a widely used and convenient method to conduct research in Wireless Networks. In this talk, the Dynamic Counting Broadcast algorithm will be presented as a proposed solution to the flooding storm problem in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs). Broadcasting is a fundamental operation in MANETs and crucial to its successful deployment in practice. Simple flooding is the most basic broadcasting technique where each node rebroadcasts any received packet exactly once. Although flooding is ideal for its simplicity and high reachability it has a critical disadvantage in that it tends to generate excessive collision and consumes the medium by unneeded and redundant packet transmissions. This talk will present the proposed algorithm along with a performance comparison to already existing algorithms. Moreover, the simulation environment and framework will be presented.

Speaker’s Biography:
Dr. Sarah is an assistant professor at the department of computing science at Imam University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
