Usability of Calendars on Transactional Interfaces

Abstract: Interacting with calendars on web forms is often confusing for users in bi-directional interfaces. Moreover, calendars used in Arabic transactions are often dual Hijri and Gregorian dates. The HCI research in this domain has examined usability issues and design considerations for calendars on Transactional Interfaces.
In this presentation, we present an overview of eye-tracking research conducted in KSU to examine interactions with calendars on web forms in general, and Arabic transactional interfaces in particular. Furthermore, we propose design guidelines based on our findings. The investigation was conducted in two eye tracking experiments and the guidelines were proposed based on the model of interaction in web transactional tasks.
Speakers' Bio:
Ms. Mashael Al-Saleh is a Lecturer in the Information Technology Department in the College of Computer and Information Sciences at King Saud University. Mashael received her MSc in Information Systems from King Saud University in 2011; her MSc project focused on user modeling in interactions with transactional interfaces in Information Systems. Her research interests involve usability, eye tracking, and transactional interface design.
